About Me

Nora Maynard originally hails from Rockford, IL; not to far but not too close to the big city.  Throughout her childhood she sang joyfully along with everything from Bach to the Beatles, experiencing close musical community at home, in children’s choirs, and in Suzuki string classes.  A lifetime of involvement in small musical ensembles has solidified her conviction that music is a powerful tool for personal development and the formation of steadfast friendships.  Music making forms a bond that can turn strangers into family, and bring families into harmony. She has made it her mission to bring this enrichment to the lives of others through performance and private instruction.

Nora received a BA in Language, Culture, and Cognition through the Philosophy/Neuroscience/Psychology department of Washington University in St. Louis. Her emphasis as a research assistant in the Roediger Memory Lab was on long-term learning strategies. The knowledge gained from her undergraduate experience has profoundly informed both her teaching and performing.

Nora received her MM in Vocal Arts and Pedagogy from Longy School of Music.  While there, she studied primarily with Carol Mastrodomenico.  Currently, Nora studies with Andrea Delgiudice.  Nora recently attended ILA’s Italian Opera Program in Viterbo, Italy, where she sang Musetta in “La Boheme” and played violin in the orchestra for “The Magic Flute.”  This past November, Nora performed the role of the Queen of the Night with Needham’s Longwood Opera Company in their production of “The Magic Flute.”

She enjoys teaching as the perfect counterpoint to performing, since each informs the other so deeply.  Nora is on faculty at Whole Tone Studios in Watertown, at Music Maker School in Acton, and MJ’s Music School in Waltham.
